This piece appeared on the side of an Urban Outfitters in Los Angeles in 2011. While Banksy was painting his "Child Soldier" the film "Exit Through The Gift Shop" was making its way through the Academy Awards panel, it was nominated for the Oscar for Best Documentary. Ultimately the film didn't win dint win but the documentary did win multiple awards.
Unfortunately this piece didn't last long before it was vandalised with paint. It's easy to miss that the bullets have been replaced with crayons and the child stands in a garden that he has drawn. There is no doubt that this Banksy work was made to highlight the corruption on children's innocence.
Banksy's "Child Soldier" went viral according to Greg Linton, Melrose & Fairfax editor "On Tuesday, a friend of mine was emailed a photograph of the child soldier from a contact who is close to Banksy, We stuck it up on the site, and within 15 minutes, someone had posted its location. So we immediately went there and took more photographs."
This Banksy piece has been painted over now.
